Love

I am dedicating this first blog post to my husband, Frank, for all of his kindness, care, and good humor. I  wrote this poem for him several years ago, and it still rings true.

Love

3/28/2022

The mundane moments
Are infused
With love.

I give it to you
As a warm cup of tea.
And it returns to me
In a sleepy snuggle
And tender kiss.

Words soaked in love -
Hey,   Thank you, Sorry,
Pass between us almost unnoticed,
-   Almost.

Love rides along
On the long quiet drives,
         In the rain,
To another appointment.
You say it’s no big deal,
         But I know it is.

I find this love -
In your calm strength,
         when I’m scared,
In your stability,
         when I’m anxious.
Your hand wrapped around mine,
As we sleep.

And in your smile,
When I can make you laugh
With silliness
         and bad jokes.

While dusting and scrubbing toilets,
Planting seeds and,
Planning our final good-byes.

The normal rhythm
Of our days,
Are saturated with
This extraordinary gift -
More precious than gold.

Thank you, good night, I love you.
